How It Makes A Difference
We at Pajama Program firmly believe that representation matters. Why? Representation is crucial to making a child feel included in society and to expanding all children™s concept of what is possible. When children see people who look, act, and experience life like them reflected in the books they read, they are able to feel a sense of inclusion in society and can see potential for what their lives could be. But representation does not only benefit people of color; representation benefits everyone. According to Literacy Minnesota, reading multicultural books promotes unity, empathy, and the interaction of children across differing ethnic backgrounds, among many other benefits.
